looks like your bov is on the hot side? generally you see it on the cold. whats the rationale for that? if any lol?

The rational? It seemed that pipe was less likely to be replaced at a future date. After the amount of time I spent smoothing the weld and such (and that it's a proprietary flange), I didn't want to have to do it again.
From a functional standpoint there is no difference between putting it on the hot side or cold side (unless you think the heat will hurt the bov that was made for this purpose).

No, I've had too much other stuff to deal with and haven't messed with it since the last time I pulled the head off. Currently the head is 1500 miles away and a new powdercoated intake is getting ported to match the head.

OK, things are lining up for another round. The head and new intakes should be back in my possession in the next couple weeks. The turbo that blew up got sent out for an upgrade to a 61mm compressor wheel and Stage 5 exhaust wheel...this should be able to support over 500rwhp now. I'll have to keep the boost level somewhat low though as I still have stock rods so I don't want to exceed 400rwhp or so. I checked the engine deck for flatness as I had a feeling that was the cause of the headgasket issues. Sure enough, the deck was down around #2 and #3 bores as much as .0025" which isn't acceptable. The only "right" way to fix this is the pull the engine, tear it apart completely, then send the bare block to the machine shop and have it decked. I decided to just build a new engine for it with upgraded rods and such so I'll have less downtime. In the meantime, I used a little "top-secret" messaging of the deck and got to quite a bit better. The lowest spot is now only .0015" down and that's just one little area, the rest is less than that. I may message it a bit more and see if I can get it perfectly flat. As it stands though, I'm going to throw it back together with a cheap 8993 headgasket and see if it will stay together. The 8993 gasket should work better than the 1035 in this instance because the fire rings in the gasket are softer which will allow them to conform to the non-flat deck better than the 1035. If it holds together, I'll be in no hurry to build the new shortblock. If it doesn't, I'll check over the spare engine I have that I bought used years ago to use in the dragster. It's already got Crower rods so if everything checks out with it internally, I'll re-seal it, paint it, and drop it in. Then I'll build a better shortblock for the dragster

hope it all works out this go around. glad you found the problem. ill pray for the cheap gasket and the "massaging" youre doing to deck the block. good luck!

OK, head, intake, etc. is here and mostly assembled. I'll post some pics of the new intake setup in the next few days. The headgasket will be here tomorrow so I should be able to get the head installed Thursday evening. Then all I'll be waiting on is the turbo to arrive. Maybe I'll throw on a little spare turbo? Depends how long it will take for the turbo to be finished I suppose.
