Because the 87-90 harness won't plug into your car would be the first reason.

Not without modifying the harness. If there was an "easier" way to do it it would be published. There isn't so if you can't do the swap with the stock harness and aren't willing to pay someone else to mod the harness for you, you are out of luck.

Sounds like you should ask you friend, he's the one that says you can use the 89 harness without much issue. I've already given you all the info I can about why it's not a good idea.
Plug in: the wiring plugs that connect the engine harness to the car are not anywhere near the same so they won't "plug in".
What's the diff? Besides one using a distributor and one not, one having 8 spark plugs, the other only 4, one using an integrated relay module, the other not, one using two coils, the other only one coil, one using a mass air flow sensor, the other being speed density, each using a different ecu and different ecu pinouts, one using a tfi module mounted on the distributor to control the ignition system, the other using a dis module on the intake to do the same...
What's the same? They both come in 2.3 Mustangs.

What stinger is trying to say is that the '89 harness won't work on your car. It won't plug into the main harness because Ford changed everything between those years and the harnesses are not inter changable.
What is the problem with modifying your original harness according to the swap write up?

I've said that 4 different ways but he won't accept it.
He screwed up his original harness when trying to do the turbo swap incorrectly and can't find another one to buy.

Regardless of what you are doing, here are your options: Use the 91-93 harness and follow the step by step directions that are provided which makes it possible to do the wiring in a few hours max (Matt said the last one he did was under an hour). Use an 87-90 harness, hope it will work, study wiring diagrams to figure out what is different between the 87-90 harness and the 91-93 Mustang chassis harness, additionally, do mods required to convert the 87-90 harness to turbo spec, then hope you did everything right because if anything is screwed up, you are again on your own because nobody does it this way because it's WAY more difficult. This is the last post I will make about using an 87-90 harness in a 91-93 Mustang. I feel like I could discuss it until I'm blue in the face and nothing will be understood

Use the 91-93 harness and follow the step by step directions that are provided which makes it possible to do the wiring in a few hours max (Matt said the last one he did was under an hour). The above is the only practical way to do it. Forget about using the earlier harness because it is not compatible with the rest of the wiring on your car. Your friend is steering you in the wrong direction.
