Scan for codes, verify cam and ignition timing is correct.
What throttle body are you running? The 65mm units have an air bypass screw that will make a 2.3 idle about that fast until it is screwed in some to decrease the amount of air flowing through it.
Is it smoking? If so, what color?

It is the stock throttle body from my 1993 2.3. It is not smoking but the exhaust will burn your eyes very bad.

Did you scan for codes? What's the fuel pressure? Plug wires in proper order?

Plug wires are in proper order and the engine had an adjustable fuel pressure regulator but I don't know what it is set on. The guy that had the engine last ran it as an autocross car.

Did you scan for codes? (third time) Get the fuel pressure checked.

The codes were just the normal ones for egr and so on. I am trying to get ahold of a fuel pressure gauge but i think it is way to high. I truer to start it a couple of times and then it stopes turning over. I pulled out the spark plugs and the cylenders were full of gas. I took off the upper intake and two of the four barrels had gas in them. Any ideas. How do you adjust the regulator. My guess is I have to get a gauge and then turn down the screw on top of the regulator to change the pressure? Is that correct?

If there is that much fuel in it then you have other issues...like the injectors sticking open or something.
Regardless, yes you turn the screw in the middle to adjust it. Screwing it out should lower the pressure. Each turn is a couple psi.

HatsTHat's what I was afraid of. Any starting point if tomorrow I verify that the injectors are sticking open?

I need to find an adaptor for my fuel pressure gauge. Does anyone know of a fitting that will fit in the spot where the fuel pressure releaf shrator valve is?

37-40 psi with vacuum line removed and plugged from regulator...typically ends up about 32-33psi with vacuum line on (depends how much vacuum your engine pulls at idle). That's why it is supposed to be checked with the vacuum line removed.

I had wandered why my fuel pump did not shut off. I had the egr port on the intake open and the power to the car on so I could hook up some gauges. Fuel came pouring out. I took the injectors off the rail and you could push on the needle and it would come back. Could they be stuck open? If so how do I check? Are there anyways to save the injectors? This is really anoying. This is all that is standing in my way. Thanks for all the help
