Yes, it's always step one for any diagnosing...make sure it's the right one though, you have an EEC-IV system.

Be sure to hold the throttle all the way open when cranking to do the test on each cylinder.

Make sure cam timing is correct or the compression test will not be accurate.

The number doesn't really matter, it's how close the numbers are to each other. 135 is fine if they are all there (+ or - 5%).

You should do it at operating temp but most likely cold will suffice.
So what are the results?
You check the timing with a timing light.

It ran so the timing is close enough. Just do the test...cold engine is good enough.

hey stinger i did 3 cylinder's so far. it got way to dark out side to mess with the 4rth 4cyl, i did not wont to take chance stripping it, i got no lights where i work LOL, but here is the reading so far... cyl 1 135, cyl 2 about 150, cyl 3 about 145-150, so what can you tell by this so far??? i am going to do the last cylinder in the morning. are you still leaning towards blown head gasket? thanks man

When I said "cam timing" I meant the the timing between the crank and cam not the ignition timing. Ignition timing has nothing to do with it. Put car at top dead center number 1 cylinder and look in plug hole at cam gear. Mark in cam gear should line up with center mark.
By the looks of you results so far I would say "cam timing" is good.
